Renowned for creating unique solutions for commercial and private commission interior design projects, Rousseau Design have used Perspex® cast acrylic sheet to create two new multi-player gaming areas for X Box.

One is in the new “access all ages” basement area at the flagship HMV store on Princes Street in Edinburgh; the other in a family focused gaming area at Legoland® in Windsor.

At the HMV store, Rousseau used Perspex® white sheet, laser cut, edge polished and lit using white LED’s, to create stylish and ultra modern wall mounts for the flat screen monitors. When laser cut and edge polished, Perspex® Fluorescent Acid Green sheet creates individual, super cool seating areas.

At Legoland®, the gaming area is much more open and has a strong family feel, appealing to a younger/family audience. Here Perspex® cast sheet in red, yellow, green and blue primary colours has been used to echo the colour palette of the famous Lego® bricks.

In both, Rousseau take an innovative and modern approach to design to create bespoke areas with a clear purpose and focus, which identify and function as “X Box space” whilst working within the wider context of the location.

Youth appeal

At HMV in Edinburgh, the X Box 360 gaming area is in the newly opened basement of the store and offers a space for all ages to play alone or against each other.

The LED lighting around the Perspex® wall plaques helps focus attention on the  “business area”, whilst the Perspex® Fluorescent sheet with its edge lit effect creates a space that appeals to young people of all ages and looks appropriately cool!

Family feel

By contrast the X Box 360 gaming area in Legoland® is all about the family - and of course features Lego®.

Here, the individual gaming areas are defined by large displays of the famous Lego® brick – brought to life in big, bold, primary Perspex® cast colours.

Each flat screen monitor is surrounded by a large stylised Lego® brick fascia created from laser cut and edge polished Perspex®, which add bright and engaging splashes of colour to the white interior.

The robust structure, bright colours and ease of fabrication make Perspex® the perfect choice in this type of commercial interior application, where the material not only has to look superb, it also has to perform and endure over time.

And of course it’s rather fitting that the Lego® brick – an iconic shape and design - has been created in Perspex®, itself a design icon.
