Two young and innovative designers, Florian Lösch and Parkpoom Deerassamee, have used their shared design ethos to create the gambo light – a stunning new design that combines beautiful and intricately crafted shapes and forms with a cool modern colour palette - all brought together in Perspex®.

Creating the right mood 

gambo lights bring a totally new concept to interior and corporate lighting. They are not only beautiful and striking to look at – providing a real centre piece in any room, reception area or office, they also create different moods and effects depending on the type of light you choose.

They are available in 2 sizes – the larger size being perfect to stand on the floor and provide a real focal point to a room, the smaller one ideal to place on tables, desks or other furniture to create mood and ambient lighting.

Both have a unique interlocking design structure that combines curved outer ribs, held in place with circular shaped pieces at the front and rear. The clever design, which Lösch and Deerassamee believe to be unique, requires absolutely no fixings or glue, thanks to the use of precision cut, beautifully shaped Perspex® which is used to create the pieces.

Precision design

The use of Perspex® cast acrylic to create the individual pieces is critical to the success and integrity of the design of the gambo light. Because Perspex® can be cut with such accurate precision and because the tolerance of the Perspex® sheet allows for the slight expansion and contraction of the pieces as the light warms and cools, this flexibility maintains the integrity of the design.

Adapting the style

A mini halogen bulb sits at the rear of the gambo light and shines through and out of the intricate, interlocking structure. This provides a subtle glow which emits from the sides of the light. But the real ingenuity lies in the light patterns which emerge from the front as the light passes through one of the 15 laser etched templates that cast intricate and playful light and shade into the room.

And if one of the 15 designs doesn’t appeal to you or you have a corporate design or logo you want to illuminate beautifully, then the design duo can create a bespoke gambo light to meet your exact requirements.

Florian Lösch considered Perspex® to be the perfect choice of material for the exacting, intricate and beautifully complex gambo.

“We chose Perspex® because of the beautiful translucency of the colours, which helps gambo create a warm light and feeling of wellbeing in the room.  The fact that Perspex® is strong, robust and hardwearing, even when used to create a delicate and complex design, made it the perfect choice” he commented.

The intricate shapes were cut and formed by J Schwarz, a local fabricator whose skill and precision in cutting and shaping the Perspex®  allowed the different pieces to come together to create the perfect interlocking structure.
