The cost of producing methacrylates has risen sharply over recent months and has severely impacted all sheet and polymer products. Lucite International will therefore increase prices by €150/te for Lucite® Diakon® and Lucite® Elvakon® products, effective 1st May 2010. Prices for Perspex® products will also increase by €80/te from 4th May 2010. The new prices will apply to customers in the European, African and the Middle Eastern region where contractual obligations allow. Rowena Sellens, Materials General Manager of the EAME region commented: "As far as possible we do try to anticipate longer term cost projections and balance these within our price strategy. However the cost upturn we are seeing now, which is expected to hold through 2010, is far beyond what was forecast and regrettably we have no choice but to pass some of this through the chain."
