100% Design is renowned for its focus on all that is new and groundbreaking in design – the perfect place therefore to showcase colours from the latest additions to the Perspex® Frost range – the Urban and Vivid collections.
One of the most striking feature installations at this years show was Stealth – a fabulous chandelier style lighting structure created by designers Antonio Arevalo and Mauricio Elorriaga, which took pride of place in the exhibitions main hall.
The Stealth chandelier was created using hundreds of mini Stealth lamps, each one made from a single piece of 3mm thick Perspex® Frost, using both Slate and Stone grey from the Urban range. Lighting for the lamps came from a mammoth 3 kilometres of fibre optic lighting that was used throughout the unit.
Absolutely stunning
The result was a stunning and sophisticated light feature, shining with dazzlingly bright, colour changing light, achieved through the interplay of the fibre optics, lighting gels and of course the Perspex® itself.

The creation of a chandelier containing hundreds of individually created mini-lights was no mean fabrication feat – a challenge that was undertaken by leading UK fabricators K2, who used laser cutting technology to achieve the accurate precision and perfect finish on each individual piece that was vital to the overall impact of the installation.
Stealth was a magical visual experience for all who saw it; not just an impressive chandelier, but, thanks to Perspex®, a piece of modern design.
At the bar
The themed bars have always been a key focal point in the interior layout of 100% Design and the 2009 show was no exception. This year, visitors to the feature bar in the main hall were treated to a display of an almost architectural style design that was positively breathtaking.
A myriad of precisely cut geometric shapes made from Perspex® Frost were crafted together to form an intricate and ultra modern centrepiece that worked on a number of levels.
The design concept was created by Viable London and executed by Plastic Formers, using a subtle monotone collection of Perspex® Frost colours including Moonlight and Polar whites, Slate and Stone greys, brought to life with accents in Perfect Plum. The top and front of the serving area was dressed in contrasting Midnight Black as a strong centrepiece.
Perfect combination
The bar design was a tour de force – the ultimate combination of good design, precision fabrication, well chosen product and functionality – working both as a piece of design installation and a fully functioning bar structure.
Perspex® Frost of course is the perfect material for this type of application, combining good looks with practical performance and hard wearing durability; an absolute necessity in this busy, bustling, design-led environment.
