Having a home makeover is a dream for many people – and the popular Granada TV series 60 Minute Makeover – or 60MM as it is known – aims to make those makeover dreams come true – but with a twist.
All the makeovers are done in just 60 minutes – just 1 hour from start to finish - and usually the programme tries to help people who are especially deserving of such a treat.
In the latest series, Perspex® from Lucite® has played a part in helping deliver a dream kitchen makeover to one family’s home.
Perspex® is known for its versatility and the material has been used in kitchen applications before – kitchen doors and splash backs have both been given the Perspex® touch.
In this kitchen makeover, one of the most recent innovations in the Perspex® portfolio – Perspex® Sparkle in Scintillating Red was used by the show’s designer John Amabile, to create a stylish splashback to complete the striking red colour theme in the made-over kitchen of 65 year old Michael Camenzuli, who lives in Ashton in the North West of England.
The makeover was planned as a surprise by Mr Camenzuli’s son Michael who approached the show to see if they could help his father after he had suffered a heart attack which left him unable to do too much DIY at home.
A material for craftsmen
One of the main advantages of Perspex® is that it can be used by craftsmen using traditional woodworking tools, which makes it easy to create stunning results. In this case, the craftsmen were the show’s 2 on-site "handymen"Jai Goodwin and Craig Phillips who cut, shaped and installed the Perspex® splash back.
As usual in the 60MM shows, the makeover was a huge success – Mr Camenzuli was pleased with all the rooms in his makeover – including of course the kitchen. The show’s producer, Simon Paintin comments
"Using Perspex® from Lucite® as part of this makeover was so easy. The team at Lucite International arranged the delivery of the material direct to site; the Perspex® was easy to cut and install and the results are superb!"
The show was broadcast on Granada TV on April 29th
