Project parameters
Architects at Hohaus Hinz & Seifert have redesigned the renowned Schmidt Theatre in Hamburg.

The new building features a striking new façade which uses red Perspex® from Lucite® acrylic sheet to create a rectangular frame structure which emphasizes the clean modern lines of the new building.

Perspex® was chosen for its excellent product qualities, including UV resistance and outstanding weathering, made it ideal for this application.

Working with northern German distributor of Perspex® ARTHUR KRÜGER KG, Lucite developed two new custom colours especially for this project – Perspex® Red 4T76 and Perspex® Red 4T77, in 12mm thick sheet to create a unique and highly visible exterior look.

During the day, the bright red acrylic stands out next to the darker glass front of the theatre and by night the illuminated Perspex® shines in an intense red, putting the legendary theatre centre stage of Hamburg’s vibrant Reeperbahn.

Assembly and handling of the Perspex® from Lucite® sheet was done by Heinz Finck Metallbau GmbH, Linau.
